I was being bored and did a little experiment using Photoshop. I gave the first picture +0.3EV and it turned out almost exactly the same in terms of brightness with the second one. So I think the pentax can live up to its f1.4 aperture. ^_^

Thanks for pointing that out! One would expect the 25/1.4 to be half a stop faster. But the camera's metering claims otherwise. But since I used integral metering, maybe this is to do with the lens' vignetting wide open. Maybe this test should be redone using spot metering.

I'm afraid they don't perform exactly the same in terms of speed. The second picture is a little brighter than the first one.

Hi Leo -- one is never too late asking questions! :-)

As to your question, I guess that is entirely up to you. The new 12-50 will be expensive, make no mistake. It's not just a simple kit lens, it's a higher grade lens that is also weather sealed and contains Olympus' latest technologies.

Why you should switch:
- greater focal length range
- weather sealed
- faster autofocus

Why you shouldn't switch:
- more expensive
- larger

Up to your taste:
- "power zoom" operated via a switch

Another one (and please excuse the "comment flooding"): the Olympus Viewer 2 is also Windows- and Mac-only, so I use that one on a virtualized Windows 7, using Oracle's (formerly Sun's) VirtualBox. I gave the Windows image just 1.5 Gig Memory, which is enough for single tasking work like working on a picture at a time. Boots up very quick, and shuts down even faster (without any virus scanners or such), but of course AfterShot Pro, running on my bare-metal 64 bit Debian and using all processor cores is much faster (for instance when zooming in to 100%).

Feel free to drop me an email if you have questions, and think I could possibly help you - you'll be welcome. I used to build and sell even Laptops, but cannot do that anymore (no business, and no contact to any Asus barebone vendors anymore).

I've seen some samples from the Fuji, and indeed it seems to challenge a D3s regarding the absence of noise when using high ISO settings. That's not only remarkable, that's a miracle. Now if those lenses are as good as the ones from Leica, then this will surely be a fine camera indeed, no matter what the price is (but I'm sure it's cheaper than both a Leica or a D3s)...

Let's wait for the first real world tests and see - could be the photographers' tool for the time being.
