Picture of the day | June 7th, 2010

As announced, I’m reinstating my Picture-of-the-day-column, as I’ve put my PAD project on halt temporarily.

This is a picture I took ealier this year in the zoo, and I just dug it out and processed it as I didn’t post anything new for quite some time. (Lr 3 + Color Efex @ Fujichrome Provia 400)

A quick test of Nik Color Efex 3

Recently, I’ve been searching for a way to give my pictures a Kodachrome 64 look, without much success. I tried different Lightroom presets, but they didn’t bring me the results I had hoped for. So I decided to give Nik Color Efex a try … and so far — apart from running awfully slow for no obvious reason — the results look promising. Here’s just a quick conversion of a picture I took during our winter holidays, just to demonstrate what Color Efex can do.

P.S.: I had also tried DxO Film Pack, with equally good results. Both softwares have the limit that they cannot work with DNG files, so you have to do some preliminary processing any way. If I can’t fix the speed issue with Color Efex, I may give DxO another shot …

A day out

Yesterday, we took advantage of the nice (well, nicer) weather (it’s slowly getting warmer) and went for a little trip. Here are some impressions of that day.

PAD-Project: Week #1, Picture #7

This is the last picture for this week — one week already done! And it wasn’t as hard as I thought, taking one picture each day. Actually, forcing myself to take at least one picture each day makes me look for suitable subjects more conciously, which is a good thing, I think. Anyhow, it was fun during the first week, and I’m sure it’ll continue to be fun next week! :-)

Next week, I think I’m going to take my M-Rokkor 28/2.8 with me, to give it some final love before it’s sold. I hope to receive my new Biogon 28/2.8 next week, though, so I might switch to that mid-week.
