Leica present new Summilux-M 1:1.4/35mm

Okay, this isn’t actually news, as we already new this lens was coming and had already seen pictures of it. But when something is officially announced – well, then it’s official! :-) So Leica have now officially announced the new Summilux-M 1:1.4/35mm lens which has been completely redesigned for improved performance. The new lens features 9 lenses in 5 groups, including floating elements to keep focusing precise at all times.

The previous Summilux 35 was already a great performer (or so people say), but allegedly suffered from focus-shift when stopping down. Yes, not every Leica lens is perfect! So with this new version, there should be no more focusing problems when using with a digital body.

Here’s some links to more detailed news posts about the lens:

E-P1 dressed up with Contax G lens

Via dpreview Micro Four Thirds Talk forum*. Nice! Japanese photography website DCWatch again spoil us with one of their fabulous Micro Four Thirds dress-up articles. This time: a white E-P1 paired with a Carl Zeiss Biogon T* 28/2.8 Contax G-mount lens and a fitting beige Aki Asahi snake-skin leatherette (which of course isn’t real snake skin).

Doesn’t it look gorgeous? And it also takes nice pictures! Read the full, translated article here.

Some M8/Nokton first shots

I haven’t shot my new (old) M8 much yet, but did a bit and got some nice results already. And as my wife requested that I post some of the pictures I took, here you go.

My wife and Lilly | Leica M8 + Nokton 35/1.4 @ f/1.4 or f/2, 1/6000 sec, ISO 160

Here’s why I wouldn’t have wanted a shutter-upgraded M8 or M8.2 – you can shoot your fast glass wide open using shutter speeds > 1/4000 sec.!
