PAD-Project: Week #5, Picture #5

I went to town with Emil today before I had to work, so we could go for a little walk before he takes his afternoon nap. Fresh air makes little boys tired :-) All the fruit and nut trees are now starting to bloom, and it’s almost like an orgy of pink. The cherries don’t seem to bloom yet, but it can’t take much longer.

Again run through LR 3 and Color Efex Pro, this time using the Kodak Ultra Color 100 preset.

PAD #33 | "Blossoms & Balconies" | Olympus E-P1 + Lumix 20/1.7 @ f/3.5, 1/320 sec, ISO 200

I notice the 20/1.7 exhibits quite strong colour fringing in such strong contrast situations. Also, the E-P1’s sensor really isn’t up to the task in strong mid-day sunlight, either blowing most highlights or clipping the shadows. (Pulling up the shadows in post will just increase noise.) Also, the display is almost unreadable in such bright light. Thus, lately the E-P1 hasn’t been much fun as I had hoped … back to the M8 next week :-)

PAD-Project: Week #5, Picture #4

This single viola caught my attention as it was the only one on a larger patch of grass. And because I knew my wife likes violae, I took a picture of it :-)

Developed in Lightroom 3 and Nik Color Efex Pro using the Kodak Gold 100 preset.

PAD #32 | "Viola" | Olympus E-P1 + Lumix 20/1.7 @ f/2.5, 1/4000 sec, ISO 100

Because I was in A mode, and because of the strong sunlight, the E-P1 pulled ISO down to 100 in order to get a correct exposure. I’m not sure why it does this, and there is no way of switching this “function” off.

PAD-Project: Week #5, Picture #3

Clouds, rain, storm … I wasn’t in the mood for taking pictures today. So I took my PAD shot on the way home from work, out of the car … (Standing, not driving, mind you.) And it is … the new Nissan Micra, which I hadn’t yet seen in reality. And I must say, judging by its rear view, it’s a good looking little fella!

The picture was again processed in Lightroom and Nik Color Efex Pro, this tim using the Fujichrome Sensia 100 preset, in which I like the mix of moderately strong contrast and bold colours.

“Happy birthday, Opa Tommy!”

PAD-Project: Week #5, Picture #2

The Lumix 20/1.7 being a 40mm in classic 135 film terms, and thus pretty close to a perfect normal lens, it is the ideal focal length for a huge range of photographic topics, chief among which is reportage.

These roadworks close to a local grocery store have been going on for weeks, and it looks like they’re finally making some progress. They’re installing a roundabout, so traffic in and out of the store’s parking lot will go together more smoothly with the traffic passing by. The picture was pre-edited in Lightroom and finished with Nik Color Efex, using the Kodak Elitechrome 200 preset.
