Been playing with my E-P1’s JPEG settings, as I’m tired of having to develop so many RAWs. New settings: Color mode “Natural” (changed from “Muted”), noise reduction low (unchanged), -1 sharpness (unchanged), +1 contrast. Exposure correction on lower adjustment wheel. Works a charm! This one’s totally unprocessed and direct from the camera. I’m happy!

The first Potd post for this year!
I’ve been having some fun with my Cosmicar/Pentax 25/1.4 C-mount lens on the E-P1 again these past days. What an enjoyable combination, I had totally forgotton how much fun this was! Here’s a picture for you bokeh cravers

I really miss an option in the E-P1 to set a min. shutter speed before the next higher ISO value is chosen. Especially with legacy lenses which don’t communicate focal length information, the camera opts for shutter speeds around 1/60 to 1/100 sec, unnecessarily cranking up the ISO where shots could be taken as low as 1/20 sec thanks to the in-camera image stabilizer. I wrote an email to Olympus with this and several other suggestions for a future firmware update, but got no answer naturally.

That’s my wife, not me!
A happy new year to all the visitors of my website! 2010 has been a good year as concerns this blog, I’ve had a lot of fun writing about all sorts of camera related stuff, and sharing my passion for photography with you. I hope to get even more visitors in 2011, to be able to continue my work on this website and to bring you more news, thoughts and pictures. Thanks to all of you who have been visiting and contributing, and may 2011 become a great year for all of us — personally, as well as professionally!
I needed a break from work and took a picture of this new sprout on one of our office plants. What a nice change from the endlessly expanding desert of snow outside …

Note on processing: I desaturated the image except for the two green leaves (which I oversaturated a bit for contrast), and added some vignetting. Minor tweaks in curves as well, as always.
I really do enjoy the M8 much more, both shooting it and the pictures it takes. But sometimes I have a bad conscience for not using the E-P1, so every now and then I take it out just to be reminded how much nicer the M8’s files are …
As a child, I would go visit my grandparents almost every summer holiday, and sometimes also in spring, autumn or winter. I spent a significant part of my childhood there, and so that little village in the very southwest of Germany became a bit like my second home. I have many fond memories of spending my holidays there that come back with each (nowadays rare) new visit.
This fall, my grandfather would celebrate his 90th birthday, and that was reason for us to head southward for a visit. The day before the actual celebration, we (that is my wife, son and I) went for a stroll through the village of my childhood memories, and it was very touching for me to see my son explore some of the same places that I did in his age and older.
