A quick test of Nik Color Efex 3

Recently, I’ve been searching for a way to give my pictures a Kodachrome 64 look, without much success. I tried different Lightroom presets, but they didn’t bring me the results I had hoped for. So I decided to give Nik Color Efex a try … and so far — apart from running awfully slow for no obvious reason — the results look promising. Here’s just a quick conversion of a picture I took during our winter holidays, just to demonstrate what Color Efex can do.

Leica M8 + Nokton 50/1.5 @ f/2, 1/750 sec, ISO 160

P.S.: I had also tried DxO Film Pack, with equally good results. Both softwares have the limit that they cannot work with DNG files, so you have to do some preliminary processing any way. If I can’t fix the speed issue with Color Efex, I may give DxO another shot …

PAD-Project: Week #4, Picture #7

Yay! Barbecue season has commenced! :-) Today was almost perfect: Sunshine all day long, not too warm and not too cool, friends, barbecue, beer. What more can you ask for?

PAD-Project: Week #4, Picture #6

Uh oh! I forgot to post my PAD last night! But we had friends visiting, and I was busy socializing :-) So here it is, a little late. This was taken on a walk through town yesterday, enjoying the beautiful weather. I didn’t realize how many different layers of in- and out-of-focus areas there were in this picture until I imported it into Lightroom. But then, the desicion to make it my PAD for yesterday was made quickly :-)

PAD #27 | "Branches" | Leica M8 + Planar 50/2 @ f/2, 1/8000 sec, ISO 160

Also, here you can see what the max. 1/8000 sec. shutter of the M8 is good for! (If you don’t have an ND filter, that is …)

On my way home from work, I got bored waiting at the traffic lights :-)

PAD-Project: Week #4, Picture #4

Today, it was my turn to go to the gym with Emil. I took along my M8, hoping to find a subject for my PAD of today. As we came by this house, I noticed this colorfully blooming bush working its way through the front garden fence — somehow descriptive of how nature is reborn and claims back its grounds in springtime.
