PAD-Project: Week #2, Picture #1

Off into the second week of my PAD project! This week, I’m going to shoot my little 28mm M-Rokkor — at least until my new 28mm Biogon ZM arrives! 😀

Today’s picture was taken at humanities department of the University of Marburg, where I am working on my doctoral thesis and teaching students about ancient languages. In this hallway, the casings of the ceiling lights had all been taken off, probably in order to install new fluorescent tubes.

A day out

Yesterday, we took advantage of the nice (well, nicer) weather (it’s slowly getting warmer) and went for a little trip. Here are some impressions of that day.

PAD-Project: Week #1, Picture #7

This is the last picture for this week — one week already done! And it wasn’t as hard as I thought, taking one picture each day. Actually, forcing myself to take at least one picture each day makes me look for suitable subjects more conciously, which is a good thing, I think. Anyhow, it was fun during the first week, and I’m sure it’ll continue to be fun next week! :-)

Next week, I think I’m going to take my M-Rokkor 28/2.8 with me, to give it some final love before it’s sold. I hope to receive my new Biogon 28/2.8 next week, though, so I might switch to that mid-week.

PAD-Project: Week #1, Picture #6

Today, the weather was fine and we used the opportunity to go on a little trip and have a good time. We also used the opportunity to get our first ice cream of the season!

I tried to give the picture a bit of an old-fashioned colour slide film look with some grain, but I don’t know if I succeeded. Comments & critique welcome!

PAD-Project: Week #1, Picture #5

Admittedly, I’m not very good at “street photography”. I am too shy, too concerned about what a possible subject might think, if they might notice me, how they might react. This is a pattern that reocurrs not only when being out shooting, it’s a general thing with my psyche. But I’m working on it.

Today, I did not go to work by bike due to the dull, cold and slightly moist weather, but instead took the bus. And in turn this gave me the opportunity of taking the picture of this fellow, waiting for the same bus as I. I found him very interesting on the first glance, looking as though he might have quite a story to tell about his life.

I think this is what makes genuine street photography so interesting — capturing moments, capturing people, capturing daily life, taken out of its context and presented for interpretation by the beholder. You can intentionally tell a story, or intentionally not tell a story. And you conserve bits and pieces of the daily life in your surroundings which might at some point in time gain a documentary value.

Anyhow, without my PAD project I probably not have taken this shot. So I’m glad I started it :-)
