Panasonic unveil Lumix G2 m4/3 system camera

A few minutes ago, Panasonic officially presented the new G2 Micro Four Thirds system camera, successor to the G1 and big brother to the G10, which was also unveiled today.

The G2 is pretty much a blend of G1 and GH1, added with some minor design changes and – above all – a touchscreen that allows to point directly at the part of the image you want to focus on, and then releasing the shutter – all with your fingertip. (This technology has already been used in the FX-series of Lumix cameras, but is entirely new to the Micro Four Thirds lineup.)

Together with the G2 and G10, they presented their new 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens, which is lighter but longer than its 14-45mm predecessor, and also comes with a cheapo plastic mount.

Back to that touchscreen – I wonder what Olympus’ next m4/3 model will bring?
Also, considering the G2 now has HD video, I wonder what the next GH model will bring? (Panasonic say it’ll be the premium line of m4/3 cameras!)

P.S.: hardwarezone have one of the first hands-on preview of both new cameras here (via dpreview Mirco Four Thirds Talk forum).

Pimp my Lumix 7-14!

Those who own the Lumix 7-14mm super wide angle zoom lens might have had that thought: “If only I could attach a polarizer filter to this lens!” Well, you obviously can’t, for three reasons:

  1. The front lens element protrudes too far outside the lens barrel,
  2. the lens hood is fixed and
  3. it doesn’t have a filter thread.

So what to do if you desperately do want/need to use a filter with this lens? Build an attachable filter adapter that fits on the hood yourself, like this guy at the dpreview Micro Four Thirds Talk forum did!
