Mike Johnston says: “go with the Ferrari 599”

Mike Johnston from The Online Photographer is contemplating ‘The Trouble with Recommendations’. In short: everytime an ‘expert’ on a certain field recommends something to someone, they will most certainly have more trouble with it than fun (or whatever it is they were looking for). This seems to hold true for cars and printers (yes, printers) in particular.

I’m not an expert (not in the field of photography, anyway), but I can only second Mike’s statement: Whatever you’re going to get, go with the Ferrari 599.

First batch of scans from my 35 GT

Okay, here they are! It took me a little longer than intended until I finally got to scanning some of the pictures I took with my recently acquired Yashica Electro 35 GT rangefinder film camera, but now I finally got my ass up and scanned the pictures I liked best. All were scanned directly from 13 x 18 (5 x 7) prints with 600 dpi and post-processed in Lightroom 3 beta 2. The film used was a FujiFilm Superia X-TRA 400.

Picture of the day (April 9, 2010)

Found these … er … ‘drawings’ in an underground passage. Both walls were nearly completely covered by these. PP: developed one color and one b&w version, cut the robots out of the color version and pasted them into the b&w version (with some blending added).

"Transformers" | Olympus E-P1 + Lumix 20/1.7 @ f/1.7, 1/80 sec, ISO 400

Had to part with my 20/1.7 - but not for long hopefully

I just brought my beloved Lumix 20/1.7 MFT pancake lens back to my local dealer from whom I bought it. The lens already had some minor dust particles on the inside when it was new, but now a really huge (i. e. visible) dark piece of whatever has managed to intrude into the lens, leaving its traces in highlight bokeh when shooting wide open – I don’t think that’s supposed to be happening to a half-year old 350 € lens, right?

Anyway, now I have a reason to use that kit zoom some more :-) I hope Panasonic will replace the lens soon, and I don’t have to wait as long as those trying to get a new one …

In other news, my dealer offered me his old Leica R8 with five lenses reaching from 28 to 300mm – can I resist such an offer? (Or rather: can I afford such a setup?)
