Picture(s) of the day (May 3, 2010)

Today there are three pictures of the day. I couldn’t decide which one to pick, since I liked all three of them so much – so I decided to post them all! :-)

The pictures were shot yesterday on a late afternoon walk. We chose a route we hadn’t walked before, and as it is with new places, they offer a lot of new impressions and fresh ideas for pictures.

"Snail #1" | Olympus E-P1 + Lumix 20/1.7 @ f/4, 1/250 sec, ISO 200

Great, how blurred the background is even at f/4! I didn’t realise I still had the aperture set to 4 when I shot this – and I didn’t notice at all until I looked at the EXIF data.

Picture of the day (May 1, 2010)

Wow, this was quite a pice of work! Okay, here’s what I did.

First I developed two versions of the picture, one in color and one in b&w. For the b&w version, I adjusted the colours so the sky would be darker and much more dramatic, also the greens would be a bit darker and the yellows and oranges brighter for more contrast. I then exported both as 16 bit TIFFs and loaded them into Paint.NET, where I merged them. Regretfully, after merging the sky wouldn’t be as contrasty as I had hoped, so I meticulously seperated it from the fore- and background using the magic wand. Then, I seperately adjusted the tone curves for the sky and for the rest of the image, so that I got this as a result.

"Relax" | Olympus E-P1 + Lumix 20/1.7 @ f/8, 1/250 sec, ISO 200

This would probably have been a lot easier with Photoshop … 😉

My 20/1.7’s back! And newer than ever!

Yahoo! Today I’ve got my Lumix 20/1.7 back – it had been with Panasonic for almost three weeks now. But they did a great job cleaning it from the dust that had intruded – even the small particle that was already in the lens when I got it is gone now! Yes, it’s the same lens – the barrel had a small scratch on one side, which is still there. Also, they put new front and rear lens caps on it – how very considerate of them!

Here’s a picture on which you can see how happy I am:

The editor of 43rumors.com writes that he has received his Noktor 50/0.95 lens. He included three sample pictures taken with the lens as well as some iPhone shots showing the lens as well as the setup with his white E-P1. Also, in his pictures you can see that the Noktor lenses have a serial number engraved at the bottom of the front part of the lens barrel, in this case it’s “N0. 0002” – a very early model thusly.

Two pictures behind the cut. Continue reading 43rumors editor has Noktor 50/0.95
